Moderationalists

I want to start a new political group: Moderationalists.

Moderately liberal, moderately conservative.

Illegal immigrants: I don't believe children should be citizens of the united states just because they're born here, their parents/guardians should have to be citizens. People should be able to immigrate to the United States, but only legally.

Biology lesson: When an egg is fertilized, the cells begin to multiply, at this point it is LIVING. Yes it may be IN your body but it's not your body, it's a completely different being. So should abortion be legal? Well, there are gray areas as there always is. But I don't believe it should be for the general population. As we are EQUAL, if a father can't kill his child, why can you? Gray areas include rape and if it would be lethal to the mother, I don't know exactly where I stand there.

Drugs. First of all, some "drugs" are completely natural, i.e. marijuana. Medically marijuana can be very helpful and should definitely be equal and covered by insurance. Other drugs (meth, heroine, etc.) should never be legal. Recreationally, there are again gray areas. I believe it could be legalized for recreational use with an age limit and stipulations. Cigarettes, in my opinion, should be illegal. They are bad for the environment, they are extremely bad for the person that is smoking them, they are bad for anyone that is around/walks past that person when they are smoking. They should have been illegal a looong time ago.

Guns. First of all I just want to point out that no one is trying to take all your guns away. If you think that you should really educate yourself on the political standpoints. I'm very gray on guns as well. I believe there need to be stronger restrictions for people who live in a household with someone who is mentally unstable. There are more restrictions that could be placed without ever impeding one's "right to bear arms" so don't get your panties in a bunch.

Gay marriage. This should be legalized nationwide, the fact that it's been handled in a state-by-state matter seems ridiculous to me. There are right you can get from the nation as a married couple, and if you are married you should always be viewed as such, you shouldn't have to worry about moving into a state where you wouldn't be considered married. Also, there's absolutely nothing about it that affects anyone other than the people involved in the relationship. It doesn't cause mutated children (as it would if you married your sibling or first cousin) and YOUR religion has absolutely nothing to do with their lives, they aren't forcing your church to marry them.

Taxes: Taxes need to be in place. We run our country off them, and people with disabilities need some way to survive. But there are ways they could be better dealt with.

Government officials' salaries: Why in the world should congressmen and other government officials be paid for the rest of their lives after they are out of office? And THAT much? No. The rest of the world has to work their almost their entire lives and take money out of their pay to build a retirement fund to suffice for when they are too old to work. You sit in a chair and make decisions based on your constituents? And there are soldiers over seas risking their lives everyday? But YOU'RE the one getting paid tons of money the rest of your life? That's not right.

On that note, veterans: My grandfather served two tours in Vietnam, saved lives. Volunteered for the second tour because he wanted to go back to the village he was protecting because he cared about those people, and as a soldier it was his duty. He came back to the United States only to be shunned by his country because they didn't agree with the war, which wasn't at all his fault. There are many people like him in this country. Do you know what they have to go through to simply go to the doctor because of the lack of VA clinics? He waited over a year just to fix a tooth. It's not right. Whether you agree with the war that's being fought or not, these people are heroes. They put their lives on the line to save others, and they should be treated like heroes.

Foreign affairs: Have you ever heard the saying "Before you help others, you must first help yourself"? Imagine, just for a moment, if we withdrew our troops. If we focused on defense only. If we used our oil, we used American made products only, and we help the Americans that are starving right now instead of trying to help everyone else when we are in debt. (Maybe we could even wean ourselves off oil in that time and try alternative sources that are cheaper and better for the environment) Just for six months or a year. We would create tons of jobs, or economy would boom. We could really grow. And after that time, maybe our country would be more unified, as it would be healthier. Maybe at that point more people would be behind helping other countries because we wouldn't have to worry about ourselves. I know it sounds impossible, but just imagine.

Animals: I'm going to add this in here, and don't completely discredit me because you have the "animals don't matter as much as people" mindset. Because they matter just about as much. And first of all, no living creature should have to suffer before it dies, I don't care if it'll "just be food anyway" that's no excuse for torture. Did you know one of the earliest signs of someone who is a psychopath is torturing animals? So why don't we take that seriously? Second point: The number of species on the planet are rapidly decreasing, greatly because of our actions. Imagine someday when you want to go fishing and there's only two or three different species available. How boring and disappointing would that be? Or hunting. My dad duck hunts and I like seeing all the different colors and markings of the ducks he gets. Or one day at your bird feeder maybe there will only be one kind of bird, because we killed off the rest. Does anyone enjoy listening to the frogs in the spring? All the different songs they sing? Gone. Amphibians are most susceptible to pollution and would likely be the first to go. You know what happens with less frogs? More flys.  Every creature has a place in the ecosystem.

The death penalty: Why is it so bad again? So someone kills an entire family (or even one person) and we put him/her in a room and pay for him/her to eat three meals a day and sleep in a safe bed? A life for a life. (If it was on purpose) Someone has sexually assaulted multiple people, and every time he/she gets out of prison he/she does it again? Why are we keeping him/her alive again? If you are contributing only awful things to our world why are you in it. But of course, not every crime deserves the death penalty.

Extremism is bad. There are almost always grey areas, but there are some things that are definitely wrong and definitely right.
